Inactivated quadrivalent flu vaccine (split virion)
Indications/Uses
Active immunisation of adults & childn from 6 mth for prevention of flu disease caused by flu virus types A & B contained in the vaccine.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM Inj into deltoid muscle or anterolateral thigh. Single 0.5 mL inj. Childn 6 mth to <9 yr not previously vaccinated against flu Administer 2nd dose of 0.5 mL after at least 4 wk interval.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity after previous inj or to flu vaccines.
Special Precautions
Postpone vaccination in patients suffering from acute severe febrile illness. Not to be administered intravascularly. Patients receiving immunosuppressants or w/ immunodeficiency; thrombocytopenia or any coagulation disorder. Syncope. Perform medical history & clinical exam prior to vaccination. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <6 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Myalgia, inj site pain, redness & swelling, fatigue, loss of appetite, irritability/fussiness, drowsiness. Headache, GI symptoms (eg, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea &/or abdominal pain), sweating, arthralgia, inj site induration, shivering, fever (≥38°C).
Drug Interactions
False +ve ELISA serologic tests for HIV-1, hepatitis C & especially HTLV-1.
